Reminiscing about U-Haul panels

We have a sweet young mother in our ward who is Very Crafty and makes picture frames and other neat things with old wood.  We tore down a couple of barns and invited her to come pick up some old wood to use . One of the pieces she got excited about we told her was just an old U-Haul panel.  She took it home and made this beautiful bench with storage:

It is well done and yet artsy.  She decided after a little while that she didn't have room for it (or so she says) and wanted to know if I wanted it.  I did and it has touched me surprisingly much.

My kids will undoubtedly remember all the U-Haul panel wood around the place.  The man who had the house before the ones we bought from, worked for U-Haul and could apparently bring home the old trailers and use the wood   The covered porch was made with the orange panels, the utility room was, the roof of the barn, and even the bed in one of the smallest bedrooms.  It is made of heavy marine plywood and used to be really waterproof and strong.  But after 34 years it is pretty aged.

We used the wood copiously, they had a huge slide  made of a 8 x 20 sheet of it laying on stack of wood after we tore down the covered porch. It became goat shelters, pig pens, gates, and etc.

Pretty much it is gone now, but now I have a beautiful bench made out of it so I can always remember the happy days of our youth when U-Haul panels made up so much of our outdoor area.  Thank you Keri.
